"This has got it all. Great characters, sparkling dialogue, suspense, mystery, exotic locations." Patrick Fox
"Rapier wit, utterly amazing dialogue, and some of the most engaging characters I've ever read." Gerald Johnston
"I was hooked from the very first paragraph." Dawn Judd
Boy meets duck, boy loses duck, boy finds girl.
At Disney World, Paul is picked up by a five-foot duck named Huey. Duckness proves to be skin deep, however, for Huey the Duck is really Huey the Girl, an attractive young woman who leads Paul astray and into a very different world ¬ one of pirates, pythons and panthers, voodoo, men who have passed through the earth twice, and things that go bump in the Caribbean night.
Voodoo Love Song is a tale of romance and misadventures on an idyllic Caribbean island, beautiful by day but mysterious and threatening after dark. Is there some unseen hand guiding their every move? Is Huey something more than the free spirit she professes to be?.
If you like the witty banter of Nick and Nora Charles, the laid-back humor of Jimmy Buffett, and the wacky story-telling of Carl Hiaasen, this one's for you. Read it while lying on a tropical beach, piña colada in hand.
"I fell in love with a duck. How good is that?" Steve Carter

Richard Daybell has made the endearing assumption that his readers are intelligent and curious. From the very first chapter heading to the last period on the last page, his novel entertains without a single lapse. The attention to detail is perfect, not overly much nor less than necessary. Not one scene felt contrived; some passages provoked unanticipated laughter. I knew his characters and recognized their personalities. I was particularly impressed by his ability to capture, effectively, the essence of young people. The children are charming and lovable, his villains are despicable, and the protagonists are just like us. "Voodoo Love Song" is a delightful vacation from this boring, demanding, day to day world to a place that is breathlessly alive. Richard Daybell's novel is freshly reminiscent of Russell Banks and Carl Hiaasen novels.Product details

Voodoo Love Song edition by Richard Daybell Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
You'll be surprised and extremely glad that you found Richard Daybell. He reminds me of the very many talented artists/ writers that are overlooked. But somehow you find them, & so glad you did.
This book was so delightful, that I had to loan it out to everyone I knew for a great read. It was easy to digest, the humor was perfect, the story line was thrilling, and the characters were wonderful. I felt transported to a tropical island with suspense. love, magic, and voodoo. Would recommend 100%
I am a huge Richard Daybell fan and have been reading his short stories for a long time. I believe Voodoo Love Song was his first novel and it had all the components of a terrific read comedy, adventure, great characters (Richard's biggest asset), just enough description, and a happy ending. He also tones down the romance to a tolerable level leaving the reader to use their imagination. I had no issue loaning my copy to my grown daughters to read. Wonderful job Richard, please write more. I hope someday to be able to actually meet you!
Voodoo Love Song starts out as a fun, lighthearted almost-romance between Paul and Huey (not her real name), with hints of mysterious goings-on in the background. By the end, it's an action-packed and suspenseful thriller. This is a very quick read but it's tremendous fun with colourful characters, a lush Caribbean setting, and just a hint of voodoo magic. Just the sort of thing to read on the plane to your own tropical island (although I read it on a rainy evening in England, which also works).
This is the first thing I've read by Richard Daybell, and I haven't been disappointed this is a fun, entertaining read that doesn't take itself too seriously, and does an excellent job of not underestimating the intelligence level of the reader, which is something that too many authors do these days. The version is two dollars, but don't let that fool you the quality easily surpasses the bargain basement price, and for that amount you can't really go wrong. Definitely worth looking at.
In the wrong hands, dialog can be awful, which is why it is best left to the likes of Richard Daybell. The banter in Voodoo Love Song is the mile-a-minute stuff that establishes character, creates mood, advances plot, makes you laugh out loud, and drops you at book's end before you know what hit you. (Oh, and teaches you a little bit about Caribbean cultural history on the way.) But it's the hero, with his I-got-this bravado, and his charming and bemused companion, that make this book so much fun. It starts out as a frolic—as every cubicle-bound bureaucrat's fantasy romance—but lands Paul and Huey as virtual prisoners in a palpably ominous tropical setting, complete with pirates, zombies, and practitioners of the Black Arts. As they plot their escape, Daybell keeps the suspense alive by breathing such life into these villains—even the twice-dead ones, that the outcome is aways in doubt.
If the winter blues (or any other kind) have got you down, get a copy of Voodoo Love Song!
I enjoyed the storyline and the characters. It kept my interest from the start and It was a fun adventure with great twists
